I installed 10.04 as soon as it was released and it worked right out of the box. But suddenly today the network manager refused to start.
Well, I could see the icon in the systray but it didn't show any network interfaces (I have eth0 and wlan0).
To get me an IP I had to run dhclient manually from the terminal which was successful. Finally I could google for help.
Google pointed me to this blog post where the author had run into the same problem.
Apparently there is a bug filed for this issue, I'm just too lazy to search in the bug database :)
Just wanted to share this with you if you bump into it.
The network manager applet on my default Ubuntu (GNOME) 10.04 installation just stopped working. I had to dig through the menus, find it, and set my wireless network connection to always connect to a specific network for it to function properly.
ReplyDeleteMartyloo: Does the gnome network manager also have a file 'var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state' which has an entry that can disable the network?
ReplyDeleteHave you tried using wicd? If you don't need the VPN and cell phone modem capabilities of NM, wicd is more dependable.
ReplyDeleteMe Too, tried different Network Managers, including wicd. It seems the underlying interface is not working, for both wired and wireless.
ReplyDeleteUse apt-get install plasma-widget-networkmanagement
ReplyDeleteas root to uninstall k network and install plasma widget for it
from add wigets you can get it ;)
still if it is not working
take rescue mode wile starting (mostly second option)
take root terminal with networking
simply reboot and everything will be fine
;)
Thanks Mario, you saved me :)
ReplyDeleteAs Mario said:
ReplyDeleteremove /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state, and then restart network-manager service
I am certain you are talking about network-manager and its dependencies.
ReplyDeleteI am having the same problems. So screw network-manager!!!
I am trying to figure out how to install Knetworkmanager, the 9.10 one....
