I wish that I had Jessie's girl...

Rick Springfield had a great hit with a song called Jessie's Girl and the same track is now used for the Nokia N9 teaser ad which popped up a couple of days ago.

I really hope this is a MeeGo device, or to be honest, I just hope it's a Linux + Qt/QtQuick enabled device with some MeeGo compliance.

I've had quite a lot of fun with QtQuick lately (both for desktop and my N8) and I really enjoy using it. It just open so much possibilities and lets you be creative.

Another thing that would be awesome is if Nokia actually puts PySide, the Nokia sponsored Qt-bindings for Python, on the handset. Having Python as a rapid back-end language combined with QtQuick for the view is just too sweet :)

Grr... I hate not knowing, but I just have to wait and see.

  1. How do you see Qt's future on Nokia phones anyway considering that they are now partnering with Microsoft?

And do you use Qt Quick with pyside on Desktop? I wonder how stable it is. Lot of people say pyside isn't stable but I can't really understand how bindings could be unstable.. specially when you have version 1.x bindings.

  2. For Nokia phones it's hard to say. They can replace the "symbian line" with very capable low-cost Linux + Wayland + Qt phones. If you read where Qt 5 is headed it's Linux and Wayland. Qt is bigger than Nokia. We already now have a port of Qt to Android that works quite well even though there are some issues that probably is production blockers.

Personally I think it's a sad decision that they went for WP for their smartphone strategy but as long as they are commited to Qt and QtQuick I'm fine with it. I mean, they sure don't hold on to Qt for no reason at all (at least I hope not). They have other things like IVI, tablet etc where they can put Qt on, not just smartphones.

I'm not using Pyside a lot. I've tried playing with it and I really like it and see a lot of potentials for creating apps rapidly. Since my N8 doesn't support Pyside I'm not a heavy user of Pyside yet. I had some issues when I tried the 0.4-something release but not with the 1.0 release.

Oh, maybe I should make it clear that I have an app on Ovi which I've spent a lot of time on, that's why I haven't had time to do something more useful with Pyside yet.
